Toasted Cinnamon and Clove Syrup
This toasted cinnamon and clove simple syrup is Christmas and joy in a glass. It seems heavenly, and taste even better in a variety of holiday drinks. The best part is? It's super easy to make!
Ingredients
Whole Clove
Cinnamon Sticks
Brown Sugar
A jar to store your syrup in
Start by adding 1/8 cup of whole cloves, and 4-5 cinnamon sticks to a shallow pot. Turn your stovetop on to medium-high heat, and toast the cinnamon and cloves. This step shouldn't take too long; just about three to five minutes, or until fragrant. Make sure to stir frequently so they don't burn!
Next, add 1 cup of hot water to the pot. Bring to a simmer, and then add in 1 cup of brown sugar. Stir until the brown sugar dissolves. Once the sugar is fully dissolved, strain through a sieve into your jar and viola! That's really all it takes.
When heating the water with the brown sugar, don't allow the water to boil but keep it just on the edge at a simmer so the brown sugar can fully dissolve, but the water doesn't start to dissipate.
Enjoy this syrup in coffees, old fashions, or my personal fav: apple cider mimosas.
Cheers!
