2021 Empties & Review
Hello all!
One of my 2022 New Years Resolutions is to utilize this blog more! I realize that blogs have sort of transitioned out of style with Instagram, Youtube and Tiktok having so many options to convey your thoughts, but I always adored writing. During 2021 when I got promoted to Health and Wellness manager at my job, I suddenly had to start writing emails and updates again--something I haven't done in many, many years, and I felt I lost a lot of skill I used to have. I used to pride myself on my writing, and practice makes perfect, so whether they're popular or not, I'm going to attempt to commit to a weekly blog post, starting with my beauty empties from the second half of 2021!
MaryKay CityScape Perfume
With light notes of sweetness and a hint of refreshing floral scents, I adored the scent but felt it was too light for me. I ended up going through more faster than I usually would have! In all fairness, this was an older perfume -- it was product left from my days working at a PR firm (the last time I used to write often in an office actually) so they could have effected why it smelled so light. Purchase here if you like lighter scents!
2. Mineral Fusion All-in-One BB Cream
I usually try and use a whole product before writing a review but for this guy, I couldn't do it. It had a strong smell too, a grainy texture, and inconsistence coverage. The only positive I can come up with for this cream is that it was very light on my skin at least!
3. Kate Somerville EradiKate Acne Treatment
While Kate Somerville products are where it's at, this may be my least favorite of all her items. Now don't get me wrong, it definitely did its job. But it doesn't draw the zit out, it's like it pushes it back in. This is better for you since it won't result in any broken skin but it does end up being a red spot for longer than I would like. I'm not sure if I'd give this a try again--I feel like drug stores offer as good or better options!
4. Shiseido Glow Enhancing Primer
I LOVED this primer. It went on smooth, left my face feeling silky and my tone even. It didn't leave any sort of residue, had no strong scent and did in fact leave me glowing but not oily. It turns out this item is discontinued - why does Shiseido do this to all of my favorite items?! Their SynchroSkin Primer looks the most similar, so I'll have to give that a try instead!
5. Skin+Pharmacy Retinol Serum
Another discontinued item from my PR days. Sometimes I wonder why brands would discontinue things (like my Shiseido primer), other times I understand why their products go quietly in the night... and unfortunately, this retinol serum is the latter. With retinol and hyaluronic acid, the ingredients list was top notch, but even after using the entire tube, I didn't feel strongly about it any direction. Sorry, Skin+Pharmacy, for your early demise!
6. Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate
Shiseido really is one of the best skin care lines out there, and I'm glad I got the chance to try their best selling Ultimune line. Their product always goes on thick, dries quickly and leaves no residue behind. My skin felt hydrated and well moisturized with this, and like it had a healthy barrier between my makeup and my pores. Buy here if you wanna make the leap with a great introductory Shiseido product!
7. Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion
Murad lived up to its reputation with this skin perfecting lotion--lightweight and moisturizing, my only complaint is a slight bit of shine left on the skin after use. Buy this product here!
8. Avon Advanced Techniques Leave In Hair Treatment
I've sworn by Moroccan Oil products my whole life, and when my mom gave me this, I figured it would be a similar result. And while yes, it was a similar result, it didn't revive my hair enough and had a heavy quality to it that left me disappointed. If it ain't broke, don't fix it -- I'll stick with my Moroccan Oil hair treatments.
9. Garnier Miracle Sleeping Cream
And finally my friends, is the Garnier Ultra-Lift Miracle Sleeping Cream - an anti-age and anti-fatigue night cream. Another discontinued product that neither surprises me or disappoints me. This cream smelled lovely, went on thick and smooth and mostly dried away by morning, leaving only a small amount of residual shine. I didn't think it worked miracles as it proclaimed for anti-aging and signs of fatigue, but I also thought it did *something*. Like many products of mine, I enjoyed using it but probably wouldn't buy it again (if I could!)
